What is a Data Analyst?
this job offer is within the IT Business Application Development group which supports the Company’s critical business applications such as ERP, Customer Information, Outage Management, Digital Customer Engagement solutions, field operations systems and more.  The Data Analyst will be directly responsible for building and delivering key analytical insights using a variety of tools. this function will identify useful insights and trends in data and to use those insights to help the organization make better decisions. this function will work with large datasets and use various software and analytical tools to process and analyze data. The Data Analyst will also be responsible for identifying and bringing forward key findings that can be used to improve processes. We are currently utilizing Netezza, Cognos, SAP Analytics Cloud, and PowerBI.



What does a Data Analyst do?

»Regularly communicates with business users and functional team to understand the requirements from provided functional designs or business requirements/use cases and transforms them into technical designs

»Supports all phases of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) including analysis, design, development, testing and implementation along with the generation of required documentation all over each phase of the project

»Develop and maintain complex data models

»Design and develop reports and dashboards

»Extract and analyze large and complex data sets

»Participates in troubleshooting incidents reported to IT and assists in identifying root cause of issues

»Provide support to key business decisions using data and analytics

»Ensure new implementations meet standards and provide guidance to best practices related to data analytics, data modeling, etc.

»Coordinate activities with other technical staff and contractors as required



What does it take to be a Data Analyst?

Required:

»Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and at least 2 years of related professional practice in areas such as Netezza, Cognos, SAP Analytics Cloud or a closely related field. In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, candidates with an Associate’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and at least 5 years of related professional practice will be considered. Equivalent of education and practice may be considered.

» practice with data analytics, including deriving insights from large or complex datasets

»Demonstrated practice in designing and/or building analytics reports, insights, or dashboards

»Demonstrated strong problem solving, analytical expertise, and strategic thinking capability; proven capability to discern critical from minor problems

»Strong SQL expertise and expertise

» capability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organizational technology, processes, and priorities

»Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication expertise; capability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels

»Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

» 5+ years of practice performing data analysis

» 5+ years of practice utilizing Netezza/Cognos

» 2+ years of practice utilizing SAP Analytics Cloud

» practice in energy & utilities or services industry
